On Friday, March 25th the 5 teachers who participated in our Teacher Under the Sea Program this past November during the "Impacts of Sharks on Coral Reefs" mission will go back to Aquarius to share their experiences about living and working underwater. We will be hosting 4 Google Hangouts at 2:30pm, 3:15pm, 4:00pm, and 4:45pm EST. If you'd like to participate, please email our Coordinator, Cathy Guinovart at cguin005@fiu.edu. USN Divers Aboard Aquarius

The 2016 saturation season kicked off on April 12 with the 20th US Navy mission conducted aboard Aquarius. Leg-1 runs from April 12-16 and Leg-2 from April 20-24. The Navy partnership with Aquarius began in 2003 as a way to provide in-water saturation diving training. The Navy has also used the habitat to maintain proficiency in underwater maintenance and construction. For mission updates visit www.facebook.com/AquariusReefBase. NASA Conducts 3-Day Mission In Preparation of NEEMO-21

NASA conducts a three-day (May 18-21) saturation mission in preparation of NEEMO-21. The aquanaut team includes Bill Todd and Marc Reagan from NASA and FIU habitat technicians Mark Hulsbeck and Sean Moore.

NEEMO-21 Count-down to Splash-down!

NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations (NEEMO-21) training began on July 11 with splash-down to commence on July 18. The 16-day mission will include a mid-mission decompression and partial crew rotation.

The Crew of NEEMO-21

Crew make-up for Leg-1 includes Megan Behnken-McArthur (NASA Astronaut), Matthias Maurer (ESA), Reid Wiseman (NASA Astronaut) and Marc O'Griofa (Veterans Administration & Noninvasive Medical Technologies Principal Investigator). Crew for Leg-2 includes Behnken-McArthur, Maurer, Dawn Kernagis (NAVSEA & The Institute for Human and Machine Cognition Principal Investigator) and Noel DuToit (Naval Postgraduate School Principal Investigator).

This mission will explore the impacts of sharks on coral reef ecosystems and how the decline of shark populations globally is changing coral reef ecosystems for the worst. Throughout this mission we will be hosting virtual field trips using Skype in The Classroom.
